Racing enthusiasts will get their fix once again in West Texas this fall.

For the first time in 13 years, there will be a second open road race in a calendar year that takes place between Fort Stockton and Sanderson.

The Fort Stockton Convention & Visitors Bureau on May 26 announced Big Bend Open Road Race 2.0 that will take place Oct. 13-16.

“We had some interest from some racers, and as well as this last one went, we decided to move forward with trying to host a second one,” Fort Stockton CVB Director Crystal Lopez said.

The last time there were two road races hosted by Fort Stockton in a calendar year was in 2008 when the city held the Roadrunner Open Road Race in the fall.

“We just decided to give it a try, and see how it would turn out,” Lopez added.

The parameters of the upcoming event will fall inline with the Big Bend Open Road Race held on April 24. The racers will participate in a parade and car show as in the past.

As for racing, speed classes, rules, and regulations will stay the same for the Oct. 16 race.

Lopez said the CVB decided to pick that particular week in October for the race and festivities because other weekends in the month are taken by other events, and the weather is near ideal.

“This is best fit for our calendars. We don’t think it’ll be too hot or too cold. Mid-October is usually okay. It’ll be a good time for it,” she said.
