Coach Hugh Morrissey and his Alpine Fightin’ Bucks have won two crucial district basketball games in a row. The Bucks moved to 14-6 and 2-1 in district after beating both Kermit and Anthony away from home on their courts. The Bucks won 68-49 against the Kermit Yellow Jackets on Jan. 21, and 51-39 on Jan. 25 against the Anthony Wildcats.

On Jan. 20 San Vicente ISD held its regular school board meeting. Board members Toni Sammons, Suzette Mendoza, and Beth Ivans were thanked by the students and staff for their dedication to the district.

Alpine resident Damion Benavente, 30, on Jan. 24 was sentenced to life in prison for aggravated sexual abuse of a minor.
