Early voting to begin next Monday

Early voting for the May 6 general election will begin next Monday, April 24 and continue until Tuesday, May 2. Polls will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Alpine Civic Center.

Artists to be featured in Amazon Prime series

Last week, director Christelle Bois, currently of New York, descended on Alpine to film portions of her Amazon Prime series “The Story of Art in America.” Bois focused her efforts on local artists Pauline Hernandez, a ceramicist and muralist, Michael Stevens, a guitar builder, Dot Mainz, a local quilter, and printmaker Ramon Deanda. Bois’ focus for this series explores the vitality and diversity of art in America in small and medium- sized cities residing outside of the “art world” prominent in the large cities.

Pitcher’s duel win over Presidio puts Alpine in district driver’s seat

Hannah Juett and Valerie Armendariz once again went head-to-head in a battle for District 4-3A supremacy on April 4 as the Alpine Lady Bucks visited Presidio to start the second half of the district schedule. But unlike the snowy encounter in Alpine March 17, Juett and the Lady Bucks answered the call on the border and brought a 5-1-win home to Alpine.
