BBT acquires TDS internet, voice operations

Big Bend Telecom, LTD., an affiliate of Big Bend Telephone Company (BBT), is pleased to announce that it has entered into a purchase agreement with TDS Telecommunications LLC (TDS) to acquire TDS internet broadband and voice operations in Alpine and Ft. Stockton Texas. The agreement was signed on Monday, August 19, and the transfer is expected to be finalized within the fourth quarter of 2024.

The Josh Abbott Band will perform on Saturday, November 2, at the Pete P. Gallego Center in Alpine as part of a fundraiser for the Sul Ross State University baseball and softball teams.

Prickly Pear: From native to the modern table

Most of us living in the Last Frontier are familiar with the prickly pear cacti. It grows abundantly throughout this area of southwest Texas and northern Mexico. It also can spread like wildfire. Just run over a small pad or two (called nopales in Spanish) with the lawnmower, and by the following summer, you will have a few more plants in your yard.

Deadline almost here for Fall Sports opportunities for area youth

The Alpine Junior Bucks youth sports organization is once again expanding fall opportunities for area youth by adding a cheer team option, in addition to youth flag football and youth volleyball. The deadline to register is Friday, August 30, and registration for both sports is available for kids in grades one through six. Seasons for all sports are expected to start in early October and run to late November. Kids who sign up for cheer this fall are also eligible to sign up for volleyball and flag football as well.

Runners compete in Midland

Body
Strong performances from Alpine Middle School and improved times from Alpine High School were the take-away from the Tall City Invitational cross-country meet held in Midland this past weekend. Both boys and girl’s teams improved on their times, which is a testament to race experience according to head cross country coach Cory Cason.
