On May 15 a benefit three-gun match was held at the Big Bend Sportsmens Club range in Alpine. Proceeds benefitted the families of Texas DPS troopers Mike Schulze and Remington Carrillo to help with medical expenses. I am a big Alabama football fan. I have to admit, therefore, my bias concerning the head football coach, Nick Saban, for I believe he is a phenomenal coach. Though crusty and notoriously exacting, he understands the importance of doing rather than saying something. He is obsessed with the importance of action over words. One of his more successful players was asked what his favorite Saban quote was.

Walden felt the pain without sports

Coltan Walden, a senior from Big Bend High School, has had a rough go without normal sports in his life. Being in Terlingua his last two school years has already limited his options, but of course the last year and a half has lessened even more what he can usually compete in.

Dunagan receives prestigious award

Alpine resident Dan Dunagan was honored with the Huddle Coach of the Year Award for Fellowship of Christian Athletes at the El Paso FCA Victory Sports Banquet on April 29. The award is given to only one coach a year in the greater El Paso area who has exceeded FCA’s mission to engage, equip, and empower every student and coach with whom they have contact.
