On May 14 three teams from Alpine Middle School robotics competed for the championship round of the Get Excited About Robotics competition sponsored by the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Whitacre College of Engineering, Texas Tech University, and SM Energy. One team won Second Place Overall in the Elementary category because they are still fifth graders, and at the same time received Best Themed Award. State rep offers border solutions

On May 10, Texas Representative Eddie Morales, Dist. 74, sent a letter to Governor Greg Abbott outlining a multi-point plan to secure the Texas border with Mexico while allowing for safe and legal crossings for migrants to help address labor needs in Texas. Morales’ 13-county district includes Brewster, Jeff Davis, and Presidio counties. He represents the largest House border district in Texas, with around 775 shared miles with Mexico.

Hotel occupancy grants open for applicants

Body
The City of Alpine will begin accepting Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) grant applications for the 2022-2023 fiscal year on Monday, May 23, with a final deadline of Friday, July 1. The grants can support events or other projects geared towards bringing visitors to Alpine for overnight stays.

Heat the oil in a frying pan.
