Boys basketball wins two in a row

Coach Hugh Morrissey and his Alpine Fightin’ Bucks have won two crucial district basketball games in a row. The Bucks moved to 14-6 and 2-1 in district after beating both Kermit and Anthony away from home on their courts. The Bucks won 68-49 against the Kermit Yellow Jackets on Jan. 21, and 51-39 on Jan. 25 against the Anthony Wildcats.

Fightin’ Buck cheerleaders make some noise

A lot of buzz has been generated with the Alpine High School Fightin’ Buck cheerleading squad — from memorable once in a lifetime events joining top cheerleaders from around the country at the Citrus Bowl, to a recent Texas UIL competition in Fort Worth, this talented team of cheerleaders have what it takes to succeed on and off the field.

Alpine ISD receives $50,000 check

Dollar General on Jan. 12 donated $50,000 to Alpine ISD, with the funds specified for literacy use. AISD Interim Superintendent Dennis McEntire stressed that money collected for literacy at local Dollar General stores remains in the community. A new year is for new beginnings and new goals, and for the Marfa Nutrition Center and the Marfa Public Library, all it takes is time commitment from volunteers. The Marfa Nutrition Center provides Meals on Wheels for homebound seniors 60 years and older.
