Honoring loved ones while sprucing up

Body
It is the beginning of cool fall weather in the Big Bend, and with it comes the start of unique family traditions designed to honor departed loved ones. For the Holy Angels Cemetery Association in Alpine, it all starts with beautifying and sprucing up the place of rest.

I am compelled to!

Body
As I pick up large June bugs, stranded on their backs in the McCoy’s parking lot, it seems almost inconsequential or a waste of time to do so. I’m not sure what they did to put themselves in such a position, but I do know they will surely die like that. By design they seem to be destined for such an end. It doesn’t make sense. After so much evolutionary time, one would think that such fatal flaws would have been weeded out by natural selection. Yet, here they are.

Battle on the border

Body
The old saying about being out-gunned was exactly what happened to the young Lady Buck volleyball team this past weekend down on the border. The Presidio Blue Devils have always been a sticking point for the Bucks, but this year was an exception. Presidio has seven seniors on its roster, and Alpine has three and one that starts in the rotation. It was easy for all spectators to see a huge size difference on the court when you have 18 year-old girls competing with 15-16 year olds. It makes a big difference. Not to make excuses for the loss that occurred on Oct. 9, but sometimes a team is just outweighed, and that is exactly what is happening this year.
