LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

W Tribute to Tony Lujan My friend, I find myself at a loss for words. It’s like trying to express my feelings through words and rhymes, but the music is nowhere to be found.

Happy, happy, joy, joy? As I watched the Democrat National Convention this year their theme appeared to be happiness and joy. This comes from a party that supports destructive rioters like ANTIFA and BLM, purveyors of death like Planned Parenthood, and sources of political and racial smears like Joy Behar, Racheal Maddow, Al Sharpton, and Joy Reid.

Separation of Church and State

Body
While I am far from a constitutional scholar I did grow up in a Southern Baptist Church in El Paso. And, while not in the “Bible Belt” I remember the doctrine of “separation of church and state” being hammered into me regularly and I bought into it like it was the gospel!

Although our esteemed mayor Eaves suggested otherwise in last week’s Sentinel letter, safety from gun violence is an extremely local issue, as those of us who experienced the Alpine High School shooting in 2016, or the Uvalde shooting in 2022, understand. Eight years ago, on that September day, I didn’t know if my son was alive until he was evacuated with the other survivors and arrived at my workplace. My heart races and my hands shake at the memory. I wish I didn’t have to revisit it. I wish that no one else would have to experience that kind of day and the possible outcomes that scar a family forever.

Take your complaints elsewhere

Body
I have never responded to any letter to the editor before, but last week’s lengthy letter was way too much not to respond to. Don’t judge our mayor Ms. Eaves, who is the best leader our city has, and tries very hard to keep unity. Take your complaints to where they should be directed; the state of Texas which has the last word on the Sul Ross campus (Governor Abbott). And don’t complain to Dr. Hernandez, who is also the best leader Sul Ross has had in a long time. He answers to our governor and the law of the state. Lastly, the Lions Club deserves a big thank you for all they do for our community instead of being harassed.

Thank you

Body
I would like to thank our entire coaching staff, our athletic trainer, and our coaches’ families. Coaches spend a lot of time away from home and from their families in preparation for coaching football. They work tireless hours away from home and pour so much into our kids & program. We have a wonderful coaching staff that loves kids. These coaches spend more time at the office and on the practice field with our Alpine Fightin’ Bucks players than they do with their own families. Thank you to them for loving our players.
