St. Joseph and Holy Angels to host Day of the Dead celebrations

Bright crepe paper flowers, candles, marigolds, family altars, and photographs -all of these represent the traditions of the “Dia de Los Muertos” celebration of the Day of the Dead. Find out more about this colorful commemoration by attending a celebration at the Saint Joseph Cemetery on Highway 118 just south of Fort Davis and Holy Angels Cemetery in Alpine, this Saturday, November 1.

Early voting for the November 4 constitutional amendments election ends tomorrow, October 31, at 7 p.m. Polls are open today and tomorrow from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Judge Val Clark Beard Office Complex at 203 N. 7th Street.

Council airs concerns about current budget

Editor’s Note: This is part two of a two-part story In a continuation of last week’s Alpine City Council meeting, Discussion item H was a hot topic for council members. Although the council was required to pass a budget for FY2025-2026 before the end of the 2024-2025 fiscal year, the $17.2 million budget required the City of Alpine to use an unobligated fund balance of $1.4 million to achieve a balanced budget.

Marathon athletes headed to State

Although a state running competition is nothing new for Kaden Whetten of Marathon, it’s a new game for freshman Mustang Jacob Valenzuela, and although there are a few nerves for Valenzuela, he and Whetten are both ready to represent the Mustangs tomorrow at the State Cross-Country meet in Round Rock.
These Runnin’ Mustangs will be hitting the trail in Round Rock for the State Cross-Country meet tomorrow at Old Settlers Park. Start time for Jacob and Kaden is 11:25 a.m.
