Big Bend Sector third quarter rescues

Big Bend Sector Border Patrol agents were involved in multiple rescues throughout the months of April, May, and June. Agents throughout Big Bend Sector rescued 150 individuals in distress this past quarter, raising the total number of rescues to more than 380 for the fiscal year.

Batter up for a bake sale

Rhyder Vasquez, 10, and mom Sarah Vasquez of Alpine are excited to welcome customers to their baseball themed bake sale on July 16 in front of Porter’s. The bake sale was held to raise funds for Ryli Vasquez, 12, as he will be participating in the USSSA World Series in San Diego, Calif., from July 25-31. Ryli is the only player from Alpine in an El Paso-based travel elite baseball team, and will be attending seventh grade at Alpine Middle School this fall. Illegals caught near Study Butte

On July 15 Brewster County deputies received a call of four individuals walking along Highway 118 north of Study Butte. Upon conducting a welfare check on the individuals, it was determined they entered the U.S. illegally from Mexico. They were referred to U.S. Border Patrol agents for processing. Courtesy photo

On July 12 Brewster County deputies, along with K9 Latek and U.S. Border Patrol agents, responded to a call from a concerned citizen south of Marathon reporting a group of suspicious persons who approached his residence.
