Now that we’ve worked our way through the smash burgers, hot dogs, and barbecue in our backyard feasts for the masses, it’s time to talk tacos. Out here in Far West Texas, there’s one legendary way to feed a crowd that’s often overlooked- maybe even a little intimidating to newcomers, but locals know the deal.

The Museum of the Big Bend at Sul Ross State University invites photography enthusiasts, artists, students, and the community to celebrate Alpine Photo Weekend on Friday, June 12, and Saturday, June 13, in Alpine.

It was a tough decision, but the selection committee for the annual Friends of the Jeff Davis County Library Scholarship was delighted to choose a total of four awards through a matching gift from the Kay Johnson Memorial Scholarship Fund. Three recipients are from Fort Davis High School, one is a home-schooled Fort Davis resident, and there were no graduating seniors from Valentine this year.

The Brewster County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) arrested Geoffrey “Geo” Raul Calderon in the early morning hours of May 30 on multiple charges. Calderon was charged with resisting arrest, search or transport; tampering/ fabricating evidence; possession of a controlled substance; and possession of a controlled substance in a correctional facility. Both possession charges and the tampering with evidence charges are third-degree felonies. His bond was set at $23,000.

The Alpine City Council held its regular meeting on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in the council chambers.

Senior Walk and pre-K graduation brought together students at opposite ends of their school journeys, offering a reminder of how quickly the years pass from the first days of school to the final walk across the graduation stage.

Any student who has had the opportunity to become a part of an agricultural class during their high school career knows it’s more about the instructor than it is about the subject matter. The same goes for all classes, whether history, science, or even English.
