We just celebrated Mother’s Day and have Father’s Day coming up in June. It’s a special day because we all have or had a mother. They loved us with an amazing kind of love, probably unmatched by others who also loved us. God also loves us unconditionally. I hope we all enjoyed Mother’s Day: thinking about our mothers, honoring our mothers, even if they have passed on. Other days are special to us, like birthdays, anniversaries, and Christmas. But what seems to you to be the most important day of the year? And, what is the most important day of your whole life?

Dear Neil, I just moved into a house that has a tree in the front yard with a high mound of mulch up around its trunk. When I tried to scrape the mulch away, I found large tree roots 2-3 in. in diameter coming out from the trunk, then turning straight down into the soil. Do I have to leave it like that? I really don’t like the look.

Add flour and salt to the remaining cinnamon and sugar, stirring with a whisk.

As summer approaches, it comes time for baseball, hot dogs, and, of course, Apple pie. Not just any apple pie, but award-winning apple pie courtesy of a lady named Grandma Brunet. Her daughter-inlaw entered this pie in the LaFayette Apple Festival in New York and won a blue ribbon. There is just no way you can go wrong with a pie sporting a blue ribbon.

The Alpine ISD Board of Trustees began the month of May with a special meeting held on May 5. All board members were present except trustees Haley Babb and Josh Cross. The meeting was focused on approving the Alpine Elementary flooring project contractor and a tax note with the Government Capital Corporation for the Buck Stadium turf and track upgrade project.

In a press release sent out by the City of Alpine last Friday afternoon, they announced that while anyone on city water was still under Stage 4 water restrictions, they had received a conditional approval letter related to the drilling of the new Roberts #3 well. City officials said that, based on their current information from their engineering team, drilling activities were anticipated to begin sometime this week.
