Body

Ruth Marie Hess Goss went home to be with her Lord and Savior on June 3, 2022. She was born on March 1, 1934, to Leonard Mark Hess and Mary Antoinette Rodesney.

She grew up at the family home in Marathon, Texas, which subsequently became the Captain Shepherd Inn. Her great love of the Hess Ranch north of town established by her grandfather, Louis Lambert Hess, in 1899 was evidenced by her untiring dedication and participation in the family’s Highland Hereford Cattle operation until it was liquidated in 1976. Ruth attended high school at Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas, where she formed many dear and life-long friendships. She continued her education at Fontbonne University, in Clayton, Mo., until she married Alexander George Krueger, Jr., on May 11, 1953, embarking enthusiastically in her new role as a loving wife and mother to their three children. Ruth had many passions and interests. She enjoyed reading and creating paintings using various mediums, and she displayed her artwork at the River Arts Festivals. She also had an immense love of cooking, teaching gourmet cooking classes at Scrivners in San Antonio, in addition to preparing delicious meals for family and friends. Later in life, Ruth married her second husband, Gerald Goss. They resided in Germantown, Tenn., where she shared in caring for his daughter and working at Holiday Inn Corp. They eventually relocated to Boerne, Texas, where she continued to lead an active and joyful life. Upon becoming a grandmother, she was christened “Nana,” and was devoted to spending time with her children and grandchildren. She delighted in sewing for them, quilting beautiful blankets and attending bible studies. Ruth’s family and friends will forever remember her compassionate love, infectious laughter, warm hugs, and generous spirit. She was a constant inspiration, and you could not be in her presence without feeling loved. Though she will be dearly missed, we know her loving arms will be opened wide to joyfully greet us when we one day join her in heaven. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her brother, Mark. She is survived by her siblings Claire J. Smith, John (Jean) Hess, Margaret (Larry) Rourke, and Paul (Katherine) Hess; many nieces and nephews; children Alex G. Krueger III, Chris J. Krueger, Karen K. Caraway; stepdaughter Heather G. James; grandchildren Alex G. Krueger IV (Jenny), Kate Marie Moore (Jordan), Wesley and Brady Krueger, McKenna E. Waysman (Brodie), Kevin L. Caraway (Cassidy), and Amelia Rose James; great grandchildren Alex G. Krueger V and Campbell June Krueger, Amelia Kay, Adeline Ruth, Luke Moore, and Aliela Rae Caraway. A memorial service will be held June 25, 2022, at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Boerne. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christus Santa Rosa Children’s Hospital, 333 North Santa Rosa Street, San Antonio, TX 78207.
