Marshall Grant McCall, Jr.
Marshall Grant Mc-Call, Jr., 84, of Alpine, passed away peacefully on June 10 at Lamun-Lusk Sanchez Texas State Veterans Home in Big Spring.
He was born February 1, 1941, at home at Payne’s Point, Dahlgren, Virginia, to Emma Payne McCall and Marshall Grant McCall, Sr. Marshall grew up in Dahlgren, Virginia, and graduated from King George High School, King George, Virginia. After graduation, Marshall studied at Ferrum College before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. Marshall married Patricia Ann Green in Waldorf, Maryland, and they celebrated 62 years of marriage in December 2024.
Marshall proudly served his country, moving around the East Coast and including a tour in Vietnam. In 1974, Marshall settled in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, with his family, and it is here that he continued his Navy career as a recruiter before retiring in 1984. He was able to enjoy a second career surrounding his lifelong interest in cars when he became a top salesperson for various local car dealerships in Fond du Lac.
In 2003, after he & his wife retired, they discovered a passion for the RV lifestyle. Moving into an RV full-time, they traveled the country, visiting many state and national parks. Texas became their adopted home when they fell in love with the Big Bend Region of Far West Texas. They became volunteer rangers at Big Bend National Park and Fort Leaton in Presidio. Eventually, the couple settled in Alpine. Marshall was a very talented painter and was active in the local arts community, sharing his paintings at Gallery on the Square.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia; daughters Melinda McCall of Alpine, TX, and Danielle Skupas of Madison, Wisconsin; grandchildren Kyle Voigtman, Kyra Voigtman, and Antanas Skupas; nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
Marshall was preceded by his parents, his inlaws, Franklin and Agnes Green, and two sisters, Rosemary Schoenthal and Elizabeth Massie.
In accordance with Marshall’s wishes, there will be no funeral services at this time. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
