Born on March 28, 1927, in Oberlin, La, Julie grew up in Eunice, La, where she was the oldest of 11. Julie passed away Nov. 1. She played basketball and sewed for her family. At the age of 21, she moved to Houston, where she taught dance lessons at the Arthur Murray Dance Studio. One of her students became the love of her life and she would marry Tom Knight in 1951. They lived in several places before settling in Pearland to raise their three children.

Julie was an excellent seamstress, and at 5’ 8” tall modeled a swimsuit after 3 children. She stood tall and required that of us kids. She would see an outfit in a shop window and go home and recreate it to perfection. She made our Halloween costumes, recital costumes, PHS twirler costumes, and wedding trousseaus for her girls as well as her friend’s daughters. On one occasion, she made an 8-foot white Net Christmas tree for Tom’s boss. It was magnificent. When she was not sewing, she was doing needlework or crocheting. She loved to take kitchen towels and crochet a top that attached to a drawer handle, so it was always handy to dry your hands. Often, she would give them to total strangers waiting in doctors’ offices. She had a beautifully kind and giving heart with a gorgeous smile. If you ever received one you treasured it because of who gave it to you.

Julie and Tom traveled the world and lived in some remarkable places but called Texas home. After Tom retired in 2015, they moved to Alpine where Tom was born and built a home on family land. They shared 70 years and 364 days of marriage, and even though Mom’s memory was going she remembered who Tom was and expressed her love for him in words and with her smile.

Julie loved and believed in Jesus, her Savior, more than she loved her family and she often shared her belief with others that Jesus was the only way to heaven. He was her strength through life’s ups and downs and loved us all with His love.

Mom has gone to her heavenly home and some day we will join her. Until then we all cherish our memories of her.

Cherishing her memory are her husband Tom Knight, children Julie Ann, Tommy, and Sarah Kaye along with their spouses and her grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as her brothers and sisters and their spouses and children.
