Joe was born on September 16, 1962, in Carlsbad, New Mexico, to his parents, the late Esau and Herminia Salcido. He spent his early childhood in Carlsbad before the family relocated to Fort Davis, Texas, where he graduated from high school.

In 1986, he married the love of his life, Lety, and together they built a beautiful life over 39 years of marriage. Their wedding took place in Odessa, after which they settled in Marfa. Joe had a wealth of work experience, but most recently, he served as a maintenance worker for the Marfa Independent School District. His favorite aspect of the job was not the work itself, but the chance it provided to connect and converse with everyone. Joe had a deep love for people that extended far beyond his workplace; he actively sought out conversations and connections wherever he went.

He will be remembered for his exceptionally kind, generous, and cheerful demeanor. Joe was always searching for ways to bring smiles and laughter through his sense of humor and quick wit. He truly had a big heart, and his greatest pride was his family. Joe is lovingly survived by his wife, Lety Salcido, along with his son, Brian Salcido, and his daughter, Ruby Salcido. He is also survived by his siblings and their spouses: Dorthy Lopez (Mingo Lopez), Mary Chavez (Eugene Chavez), Carlos Salcido, Velma Salcido (Joe Prieto), Silvestra Salcido, and Hooper Salcido (Rosie Salcido).

He was preceded in death by his parents, Esau and Herminia Salcido, as well as his brothers, Isaac Salcido and Rudy Salcido (Hilda Valerio).
