Glenn Richard Standly passed away on August 3. He was born in Bynum to Charlie Lloyd and Flora Mackey Standly on January 17, 1944. Glenn was a 1962 graduate of Hillsboro High School before matriculating at then Abilene Christian College where he met and married the love of his life, Cheryl “Charlie” Keetch. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from ACC and later enhanced his education with a Master’s degree from Texas Tech University in Lubbock.

Glenn was a dedicated educator who taught high school theatre in schools around Texas, including Reagan County High School from 1976 to 1985 and Alpine High School from 1991 to 2002. After retiring, Glenn enjoyed teaching college courses in several central Texas institutions. A lifelong member of the Church of Christ, Glenn was always dedicated to his church family in each community where he was blessed to live. Glenn raised his children on Christian values and was a dedicated and loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Glenn is survived by two of his children, Stuart Standly of Hillsboro and Stessa Miles, and husband Matt of Fort Davis, as well as six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his wife, Cheryl, and son, Stan, as well as his brothers, James and Billy.

A memorial service will be held at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Home in Hillsboro on August 31 at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Matt Miles presiding. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for assistance in covering Glenn’s final medical costs. Donations can be made to his GoFundMe account by simply searching for his name.
