Dora Pallanez Standlee
Dora Pallanez Standlee, 80, passed away on Oct. 13, 2021, at UT Southwestern in Dallas, Texas. She was born on May 1, 1941, in Alpine, Texas, to Matilde and Silveria Pallanez.
Dora grew up in Alpine, and graduated from Alpine High School. After high school she attended Sul Ross State University in Alpine, where she received a degree in Education. She began work for Ysleta ISD as a teacher. She then moved to Fort Stockton ISD, Texas, where she was a fifth grade teacher from 1980-1992. Her final teaching years were spent in Arlington ISD, Texas, where she was a bilingual teacher from 1992 to her retirement in 2011. Overall, Dora dedicated more than 34 years to teaching her students.
She was involved with her Catholic church.
Dora married Don Standlee, Sr., in 1970 in Alpine. They were happily married for 51 years. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Arlington. Her passions in life were her husband and children. Her greatest joys in her later years were her grandchildren.
Dora was preceded in death by her parents, Matilde and Silveria Pallanez; in-laws Harl and Mary Standlee; brothers Manuel Pallanez and Matilde Pallanez; sisters Bertha Pallanez and Margaret Pallanez; and sisters-in-law Jeanie Madero and Kathy Atwood.
Dora is survived by her spouse Don Standlee of Arlington; daughter Annika Standlee of Arlington; son, Don Standlee, Jr., of Arlington; sister Mary M. Pallanez; brother-in-law Harley Standlee; and sister-in-law Sammie Hayden.
Dora had three grandchildren, Isaac Pete Jackson, Amelia Marie Jackson, and Hannah Standlee. She had many nieces and nephews and other relatives that she loved and adored.
A memorial service will be held at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, 406 South Sixth Street, Alpine TX 79830, on Friday, Nov. 19, 2021, at 11 a.m. Burial will be held privately at a later date in Arlington.
Flowers can be purchased locally at Double K Florist in Alpine. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to a cancer organization of your choice.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to UT Southwestern Hospital, doctors, nurses, and other staff that took care of our precious wife and mom throughout her illness. She fought her cancer like she lived her life, with vigor and grace.
