Dale E. Cardwell died suddenly at home on Feb. 11, 2022. He is survived by his sisters Dorothy A. Berry (Steve Spencer) of Alpine, Texas, and Dinah K. Berry of Sugar Land, Texas; two nephews and their families; an aunt; several cousins; and many friends made in Alpine, Wimberley, Texas, and at his beloved high school, San Marcos Academy in San Marcos, Texas.

Dale was born on Feb. 23, 1950, in Houston, Texas. He attended San Marcos Baptist Academy for four years. In his senior year he was promoted to cadet colonel, the highest rank for the student cadets. Dale was very active in the alumni activities, serving several years as president of the Alumni Association. He was most helpful in assisting the Alumni administrator with homecoming and the memory room.

He attended Texas Christian University, and graduated from the University of Houston. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army.

Dale lived for over 30 years in Wimberley. In his time there, he was a member of the community theater, both acting in and writing plays. He was very proud of that accomplishment. He subsequently retired, and relocated to Alpine two years ago.

He was a regular vendor at the Alpine Farmers Market. You could find him there every Saturday morning, no matter the weather, selling his painted snakes, walking sticks and other hand made wares. He loved the market, and it was a big part of his life for the past two years.

The family is planning a celebration of his life by getting together with friends at Spicewood Restaurant in Alpine on his birthday, Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2022 from noon-3 p.m.

Dale would be so honored and proud to have people reminiscing about him and the character that he was.
