Charlotte Belle Shenefield Stewart
Charlotte Belle “Char” “Lottie” Shenefield Stewart, age 88, passed away on September 1 in El Paso. Born on March 5, 1937, in Anaheim, California, she lived a full and vibrant life marked by devotion to family, community involvement, and a passion for her many interests.
Charlotte was the daughter of Pete and Callie Pruett and grew up alongside her siblings Ruth, Grace, Sam, and Ben. She carried the warmth of her upbringing into every chapter of her life. Her sociable nature and friendly spirit made her a cherished presence wherever she went.
In 1956, Charlotte married Daniel Burl Shenefield. Their marriage spanned 47 years until his passing in 2002. Together, they raised three children: Jacqueline Morton, Catherine Kuehn, and Patrick Shenefield. In 2011, Charlotte found companionship again when she married longtime family friend Terry
Stewart. They shared ten meaningful years together before his passing in 2021.
Charlotte had a deep love for bowling and was an avid tournament bowler for decades. Her dedication to the sport was recognized in 2012 when she received an award for participating in the USBC Women’s Championships for 25 consecutive years—a testament to both her skill and commitment.
Her creativity also found expression through crochet and quilting. She was an active member of the Alpine Library Yarn Group as well as the Desert Sky Quilters of the Big Bend. These groups not only allowed her to share her talents but also reflected her love of community and fellowship.
Faith played an important role in Charlotte’s life. She enjoyed worshiping with others at the Big Bend Cowboy Church, where she found spiritual connection and camaraderie.
Charlotte is lovingly remembered by her children, Jacqueline Morton, Catherine Kuehn, and Patrick Shenefield; her eight grandchildren and nine great- grandchildren; her brothers, Sam Pruett and Ben Pruett; and all those whose lives were touched by her kindness and energy. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Callie Pruett; sisters Ruth and Grace; first husband Daniel Burl Shenefield; and second husband Terry Stewart.
May Charlotte’s memory bring comfort to those who knew her and serve as a lasting reminder of a life welllived— full of love, laughter, faith, and friendship.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Charlotte Shenefield Stewart at Big Bend Cowboy Church, 90408 East Highway 90 in Alpine, on September 20 at 10:30 AM.
