Brewster County Commissioners Court held its regularly scheduled meeting on Jan 11 and winter weather issues along with road conditions and an AgriLife update drove the discussions. County Judge Eleazar Cano announced TxDOT Maintenance Supervisor David Luce requested that the county contact the corresponding state representatives, senators, and congressperson to inform them of the county’s concerns in preparation for the upcoming winter weather season. Said Cano, “David’s main concern is Highway 67 from Presidio to Marfa, and then Highway 90 from there to here, and then from here to the interstate near Fort Stockton, and have at least one road that folks can get in and out of in case something happens.”

For those seeking to make a difference in local government, the filing period for May 7 municipal election begins on Wednesday, Jan. 19, and will close Friday, Feb. 18, at close of business. Potential candidates can file only during that period.

Geologist Rebecca Dodge has turned satellite imagery into art, and those images will be on display at Museum of the Big Bend beginning Jan. 14.
