Selette Darling Surratt
Graveside services for Selette Darling Surratt, 95, of Cleburne, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Elm Grove Cemetery in Alpine.
Selette was born in Spur, on August 5, 1930, the daughter of Freeda (McLarty) and J. Gordon Barrow. She grew up in Alpine. Selette earned her BS and master’s degree in Elementary Education from Sul Ross State University.
Selette and Harold Lee Surratt married on June 25, 1950. He preceded her in death in August of 1997, after 47 years of marriage.
Selette taught school for 26 years, teaching in Alpine and then El Paso. She was Teacher of the Year at Thomas Manor Elementary in Yselta ISD. Selette was an avid traveler and enjoyed seeing new places. She particularly loved the Montana cabin! She loved to dance, socialize, and she played the piano until the end.
She is also preceded in death by her parents; sister, Gail Cade; husband, Clay; and brother, Clay Gerdin Barrow, and wife, Delores.
Selette is survived by her children, Mike Surratt and partner, Cynthia, of Cave Creek, Nevada, Pam McCollister and husband, Alex, of Cleburne, and Clint Surratt and wife, Linda, of Aledo; grandchildren, Kim(Jim) Surratt, Travis (Robin) Surratt, Pipa (Alex) McCollister, Nick (Adrianna) McCollister, Jacob (Michael Hiebert) Surratt, and Meagan (Michael) Barnes; great grandchildren, Owen, Austin, and Brynna Surratt, Abby Moreland, and Benjamin and Aubrie Barnes.
