Floating down the Rio Grande through Santa Elena Canyon are T.J. Loftin of San Antonio, Scarle Philips of Austin, Pam Gaddis of Alpine, and Roxanne Nunnally of Austin. They made the first part of the trip under a brilliant desert moon.

July 15, 1971

Benny Leigh Harkey, son of Mrs. Lena Harkey of Alpine, and Wallace Harkey of Marfa, and Allen Gooden, son of Mr. and Mrs. Duane Godden of Alpine, are spending two weeks at Camp Musquiz.

David Talmage is the new band director of Alpine High School. He comes to Alpine from Coahoma. He asks that all band students attend an organizational meeting on Aug. 2 at the High School Band Hall.

William J. Burcham, right, recently received a 20-year pin and commendation for services rendered to the International Boundary and Water Commission from Hugh W. Calvert, supervising hydraulic engineer of the office of water control at Anzalduas Dam near McAllen.
