Illegals apprehended

On Sept. 24 a joint operation between Brewster County deputies and U.S. Border Patrol agents resulted in the apprehension of five illegal aliens from Mexico, and the arrest of Emanuel Hosea Hafford. Hafford was discovered to be smuggling the suspects on U.S. Highway 385 south of Marathon.

UT On Tuesday, Oct. 4, at 6 p.m. Alpine Police Department will sponsor its annual National Night Out at Baines Park at Fifth Street and Gallego. Brick Vault barbecue will grill hotdogs supplied by Porter’s Thriftway, and a J&C bouncers will be available for the youngsters.

Dear Neil: We have what we are told are ragweed and goldenrod that bloom along the creek near our house in falls when there is rain. These are photos from prior years. Will both of these cause allergies? Is there any way to get cities to control them?

The Alpine Fightin’ Bucks were fired up and ready to start District play against Odessa Compass at Buck Stadium on Sept. 23. Purple and gold filled the stands as the Bucks celebrated their homecoming with a big win.

Elementary school launches improvement plan

Alpine ISD Board of Trustees held its regularly scheduled meeting on Sept. 22, and a campus improvement plan for Alpine Elementary School, along with work in progress and construction reports on the high school, drove the agenda. Single member, Dist. 5, Haley Babb was absent Alpine Elementary School Principal Curtis Wubbena told trustees that a campus improvement plan included what worked and did not work for the school in the past year, and a new plan will be launched in October.
