On Friday, at the first of several scheduled press briefings, U.S. Border Patrol (USBP)officials announced a partnership between the USBP and the Department of Defense, deploying an initial 200 active-duty troops from Fort Carson, CO, to support border security efforts in the Big Bend Sector. The briefing took place at the USBP’s Alpine station.

Recent graduates from the Sierra Blanca station of the Big Bend Sector received their certificates for the ATV Basic Rider Course. ATVs play a big role in the security of the border, covering rough terrain in the Big Bend Sector not always accessible by regular vehicles.

Dear Neil, I have a nice crop of Jersey Giant asparagus plants that I planted three years ago. Last year, they produced red berries that I ignored. I have since read that I should have cut those stems out when the seeds appeared. Now, the asparagus is producing, but not as abundantly, probably because I allowed it to produce seed. Should I pull out as many of the seedlings as I can, leaving only the true spears?
