Two Alpine boys were among the 15 explorers and leaders from the Buffalo Trail Council Boy Scouts of America attending a 14- day expedition at Philmont Scout Ranch in northern New Mexico. They were David Teplicek, third row, fifth from left, and Arthur Hafner, third row, 17th from left.

July 20, 1961

Maxine Cochran, junior student at Sul Ross State College, was chosen Miss Southwest of 1961 at the 24th Annual Fort Stockton Water Carnival last Saturday night. The 20-year-old Clint girl was sponsored by Cross & Cross of Alpine. Other girls entering the contest from Alpine were Earlene Anderau, Sharon Welch, and Kathy Wells.

July 27, 1961

Lewis Poteet of Alpine has been transferred to Presidio as local manager for West Texas Utilities Co. to succeed F.R. Anderson, Jr., who has moved to Winters to assume his new duties as local manager in that city.

July 13, 1961

Dr. Bevington Reed, dean of Sul Ross State College for the past four years, has accepted a position at Mankato State College in Minnesota. Dr. Delbert A. Dyke, Head of Industrial Education and registrar, has been appointed dean of the college to succeed Dr. Reed.
