City, AISD filing deadlines approaching
Filing closes tomorrow for the May 1 City of Alpine and Alpine ISD Board of Trustees elections, and potential candidates may file only until then.
The three city positions up for grabs this election cycle include council members in Wards 1, 3, and 5, now held by Maria Curry, Betty Fitzgerald, and Rick Stephens, respectively.
As of press time, Judy Stokes and incumbent Curry had filed for the Ward 1 position, Sara Tandy for Ward 3, and Jerry Johnson and Tracy Cash for the Ward 5 seat.
Three AISD Board of Trustees positions are up this election cycle, including Single Member Dist. 1, currently held by Eddie Natera; Single Member Dist. 3, currently held by Billy Ray Laxton; and Single Member Dist. 4, currently held by Rachel Carvajal.
So far, only incumbent Natera had filed for Dist. 1, and Jimmy Morris and incumbent Carvajal had filed for Dist. 4.
Candidates for the city election must file a ballot application with City Secretary Cynthia Salas at Alpine City Hall, 100 North 13th Street; and for the Alpine ISD election, with Secretary to the Superintendent Marsha Roach at the Alpine ISD administration building, 704 West Sul Ross Avenue.
No fee is required for either election, but candidates must appoint a treasurer and report campaign contributions to the state. That form is included in the application packets.
For complete filing instructions, forms, and details about the process, contact Salas at 432-837-3301 for the city election, and Roach at 432-837-7700, option 4, for Alpine ISD.
The last day to register to vote in both the city and school board elections is Thursday, April 1, and early voting in person starts April 19.
