Dear Neil: My HOA is giving a neighborhood a heads-up on enforcing lawn violations. I have lost much of my lawn to shade, slope, erosion, and drought. Who can I contact to assess my lawn and recommend what to do? I’m puzzled by whether I can reseed, or whether I should sod, and also if I should plant St. Augustine or Bermuda? What about buffalograss?

Keep Alpine Beautiful receives prestigious Governor’s Award

Keep Texas Beautiful (KTB) has recognized Keep Alpine Beautiful as one of 10 winners of the 2024 Governor’s Community Achievement Awards (GCAA) as an outstanding clean and beautiful community. KTB, in partnership with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), has awarded the GCAA to Texas communities for 55 years. Keep Alpine Beautiful will receive $130,000 for a landscaping project to be completed in collaboration with TxDOT along a state-maintained road.

DAR Good Citizen Awards

The Paisano Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution presented DAR Good Citizen Awards to seniors from six area high schools at an awards ceremony on April 6 held in the First Presbyterian Church of Alpine. On behalf of the Paisano Chapter, Regent Kay Houston welcomed Good Citizens, their parents, and school representatives to the meeting. Vice Regent and Good Citizens Chair Judy Perry discussed the significance of the awards. Dr. Kendra DeHart, chapter member and associate professor of history at Sul Ross State University, presented the awards.

Lee Hoy has made his childhood dream of being a wildlife photographer come to life, having visited these islands more than six times since he embarked upon the journey from dream to reality.
