Neil Trammell, Alpine: Well, I plan on spending it with my family. I think we’ll start with red, white, and blue pancakes. Probably grill something American for lunch. Oh, and ice cream, lots of ice cream. Then we’ll watch the fireworks in Alpine or Fort Davis.

July 27, 1961 Two Alpine boys were among the 15 explorers and leaders from the Buffalo Trail Council Boy Scouts of America attending a 14- day expedition at Philmont Scout Ranch in northern New Mexico. They were David Teplicek, third row, fifth from left, and Arthur Hafner, third row, 17th from left.

A sparkling good deal

It was a great day for a car wash at the Holy Cross Anglican Church parking lot in Alpine on June 26 as Trail Life TX Troop 0040 members Hardeman Boutwell, James Autry Boutwell, Rudi Wallace, Andrew Luna, Dickson Boutwell, and Judah Dilts are ready to wash dirty vehicles and turn them sparkling clean. Of swallows and phoebes

This is the time of year when I would normally write about Barn Swallows nesting since they delight me annually by raising several broods each season under the eaves of my front porch. But nesting birds close to the house present unique challenges, and not all of us deal with those the same way. This month, I’ll let good friend and Alpine resident Don Derden describe his experiences.
