PET OF THE WEEK

Body
WEEK Alpine Humane Society Pet of the Week is Quill. Quill is the perfect companion to sit by your side on the porch as you read or relax. This twoyear- old Shepherd mix is sweet and calm and a very good boy. Quill came in with his brother, Rocket, who is bigger and more high-energy but also a good boy. You can meet this pair at the Shelter.

‘Sooty mold’ a secondary invader for crape myrtles

Body
Dear Neil: I have two crape myrtle trees that got the black scale. I drenched them with Imidacloprid as per instructions. Now, one tree has some healthy-looking growth with leaves, but the other tree has none except for suckers at the base of the tree. What should I do? The photo shows last year’s growth with a bird nest.
