The Big Bend Open Road Race (BBORR) is geared up for drivers and fans alike. The streets will be humming from the horsepower from April 24 through April 27. This is the best road race around, with 59 miles each way for a 118-mile course.

Guitar concerts: New musical event for the Big Bend

Beginning tomorrow, one weekend will be full of music with the addition of the newly announced “Guitar in the Big Bend” event. Nicolas Hurt, adjunct professor of music at Sul Ross State University said, “I am thrilled to announce a new and exciting event for music lovers in our region.” The event is presented by Sul Ross State University music, the Museum of the Big Bend, Music Friendly Community, and the First Presbyterian Church of Marfa.

Spirits of the West festival hits April 19-20

The third annual Spirits of the West fest is right around the corner and has found a home at a new, bigger location. Brought to Alpine by Alpine’s Gallery Night, April 19-20 the Brewster County courthouse grounds will host the larger-than-ever event.

Court thanks medical director for 20 years of service

The Brewster County Commissioners Court held its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, April 9. Della Hensley, operator of the Marathon Animal Shelter, came forward during the public comments section of this week’s meeting. Hensley shared that her animal shelter endeavor, which she runs out of her home, began in 2017 and has helped approximately 871 dogs and cats since the start.
