Dollar General on Jan. 12 donated $50,000 to Alpine ISD, with the funds specified for literacy use. AISD Interim Superintendent Dennis McEntire stressed that money collected for literacy at local Dollar General stores remains in the community. Fightin’ Buck cheerleaders make some noise

A lot of buzz has been generated with the Alpine High School Fightin’ Buck cheerleading squad — from memorable once in a lifetime events joining top cheerleaders from around the country at the Citrus Bowl, to a recent Texas UIL competition in Fort Worth, this talented team of cheerleaders have what it takes to succeed on and off the field.

Canaba’s 3-point party sinks Fort Stockton

Senior Jayden Canaba says he has been working on his 3-point shot to compliment his defensive prowess on the hardwood. He put it on display Jan. 7 against the Fort Stockton Panthers. The Bucks cruised, pushing their record to 11-5 while the Panthers fell to 5-15. The final score was 62-44 Alpine.

Lady Bucks crush Lady Cats 73-6 on the hardwood

Assistant Coach Monica Salmon filled in admirably for Head Coach Rick Garcia as the Lady Bucks collected their first district win, 73-6. Shooting guard Novah Carrasco had a career-high 29 points, and Salmon’s zone pressure befuddled the Lady Cats from the opening tip-off. The Lady Cats struggled to even get the basketball across mid-court on a night when nothing was going for them.

What are you especially looking forward to in your senior year? For senior year I’m most excited to actually walk the stage during graduation instead of watching everyone do it. What activities are you involved in during your senior year? During my senior year I’ve been a part of the band, National Honor Society, athletic training, and debate.
