Rural Services grant awarded to AVFD

The Alpine Volunteer Fire Department was recently awarded a Foundation Rural Services Grant for $4,100 thanks to the hard work of Stephanie Elmore, the Brewster County Emergency Services Coordinator and member of the Alpine Emergency Services Board along with Rusty Moore of Big Bend Telephone (BBT), also a member of AESB. The Foundation for Rural Services is the philanthropic arm of the National Telephone Cooperative Association (NTCA)-The Rural Broadband Association, and AVFD was one of the 23 grant recipients awarded.

Alpine Artwalk celebrates 30 years

Alpine’s Artwalk is back in celebration for its 30th anniversary. This year, the event is set to light up Alpine on November 17- 18 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. promising a weekend filled with art, music, and unforgettable experiences.

Alpine’s Artwalk has become a staple in the region, celebrating the rich artistic culture of far West Texas. This year, this award-winning event is thrilled to announce its featured artist, the talented Tom Curry, whose stunning works will take center stage throughout the weekend.

Big Bend Regional Medical Center to host clinic grand opening

The Big Bend Regional Medical Center (BBRMC) will host a grand opening of its new clinic in Presidio on Wednesday, November 29. The Big Bend Regional Health Clinic (BBRHC) will have a ribbon cutting that will include several local leaders, performances by the Presidio High School Conjunto Band, appetizers, and more to celebrate the grand opening.

Constitutional amendment results highly favorable

The general election results are in for the 14 constitutional amendments that were on the ballot for 2023. Out of 7,176 registered voters in Brewster County, only 19.02% voted in this general election, for a total of 1,365 ballots cast. Proposition 13 was the only amendment on the ballot that was not voted in favor of across the state. This proposition was to increase the mandatory retirement age for state judges and failed with a 62.58% vote not in favor of, for a total of 1,507,576 votes against the proposition.
