City secretary arrested on multiple felony charges

The Brewster County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) arrested Geoffrey “Geo” Raul Calderon in the early morning hours of May 30 on multiple charges. Calderon was charged with resisting arrest, search or transport; tampering/ fabricating evidence; possession of a controlled substance; and possession of a controlled substance in a correctional facility. Both possession charges and the tampering with evidence charges are third-degree felonies. His bond was set at $23,000.

Friends of the Library award four scholarships

It was a tough decision, but the selection committee for the annual Friends of the Jeff Davis County Library Scholarship was delighted to choose a total of four awards through a matching gift from the Kay Johnson Memorial Scholarship Fund. Three recipients are from Fort Davis High School, one is a home-schooled Fort Davis resident, and there were no graduating seniors from Valentine this year.
