Alpine falls to Fort Stockton, but record-setting night highlights Bucks’ fight

The Alpine Fightin’ Bucks put up a valiant fight against the Fort Stockton Panthers on Friday, September 6, at Buck Stadium, ultimately falling 44-18 in a game that was closer than the score suggested. The Bucks went toe-to-toe with the powerhouse Panthers in the first half, trading blows like heavyweight fighters in a title bout and showing the kind of defensive grit that keeps fans on the edge of their seats.

City Council’s Rules of Decorum: Ensuring Order and Respect

In August 2024, the current Alpine City Council adopted Chapter 23 of the Code of Ordinances, Article III, reestablishing Rules of Decorum to guide the conduct of both council members and audience participants during meetings. These rules aim to promote a respectful and orderly atmosphere where city business can be conducted efficiently and free from unnecessary disruption, insults, or disrespect.

Big Bend NPSOT Fall 2024 Scholarship Announcement

The Big Bend Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas is pleased to announce the first annual Patricia Rose Manning undergraduate scholarship awards. Patty Manning is a long-time grower of native plants in the Big Bend, a field botanist, an NPSOT member, and co-founder of Twin Sisters Nursery. We owe a great debt of gratitude to her for all that she has contributed to our community over the years.

TIDC Awards Dawson Award to Judge Roy B. Ferguson

At its August board meeting, the Texas Indigent Defense Commission (TIDC) awarded Judge Roy B. Ferguson of the 394th District Court the Robert O. Dawson Indigent Defense Distinguished Service Award. The Dawson Award honors and acknowledges the late Professor Robert O. Dawson’s outstanding contributions and symbolizes his lasting impact on the Texas Fair Defense Act and TIDC. The award recognizes outstanding service by a group or an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to improving the way Texas provides counsel for its poorest citizens accused of crimes. Judge Ferguson’s work has improved the quality of life for countless people in West Texas through guiding the creation of the Far West Texas Regional Public Defender in 2017, improving access to justice through remote Zoom court proceedings, and creating the online magistration portal and automated appointment system in his district, among other services focused on indigent clients.

AHS Classes of 1970’s Reunion Planned Events on Oct 9, 11-12, 2024. Get your Hotel Reservations ASAP. Send your Check by October 1. The former students of Alpine High School who attended during the 1970s will be gathering for Homecoming in October. Please join us! AHS Homecoming will take place Wednesday through Saturday, October 9 through 12. This is Columbus/Indigenous Peoples Day weekend. Please plan to join us for a parade and bonfire (Wednesday), Buck’s football game, the AHS Band Half Time show (Friday), and other gatherings in Alpine that cool Fall weekend. Other activities we are planning are a meal and dance at the Country Club on Saturday afternoon and evening, stopping by the old AHS and looking while offi ces are open on Friday, and a tour of the newly remodeled AHS on the north side of Alpine on Saturday morning. The 1973 and 74 football team players will be honored at Friday night’s game. We look forward to spending time together with all the overlapping classes of the 1970s.
