FFA is not just about livestock

Many people assume that students in FFA only raise and show livestock. While showing livestock is one-way students can get involved, FFA offers leadership, career, and scholarship opportunities, as well as life skills. My job as an agricultural science teacher is to help students find the facet of FFA that will introduce them to a skill or trade they can use after high school and in the real world of jobs and careers.

Fightin’ Buck golf hits the links

The Alpine Fightin’ Buck boys golf team will hit the road today for their first tournament of the season in Monahans. While the girls’ team has five players this season, four of them are still on the basketball court, and Coach Marco Gomez hopes to have a full girls’ team this year.

Lady Bucks win last home game

After a five-win streak spanning this January, the Lady Bucks were reminded that you can’t win them all. Last Tuesday the Lady Bucks played the visiting team, the Crane Golden Cranes, in a district home game which resulted in a tough 53-81 loss for the Alpine team.

Bucks take on Golden Cranes, Buffaloes

The Alpine Fightin’ Bucks took down their opponents last week, both at home and away. Last Tuesday, January 23, Alpine High School hosted the Crane Golden Cranes for a district game which resulted in a 72-43 win for the Bucks. On that Friday, they made the journey to Stanton where they defeated the Buffaloes 57-44.

Acquisition of three historic hotels completed

On January 17, Collin Bibb and Brian Carrico of Byways Hospitality announced the acquisition of three historic hotels, the Holland Hotel and the Maverick Inn in Alpine, and the Hotel Limpia in Fort Davis. Acquired by Four Yucca LP, which is a new group of Texas investors, they plan to implement restorations in Alpine and Fort Davis.

Lajitas Golf Resort donates funds for emergency services

The Brewster County commissioner’s court met on Tuesday, January 23 for their regularly scheduled meeting. County Judge Greg Henington recognized the Lajitas Golf Resort’s generous donation to Terlingua Fire and Emergency Management Services of $53,000 to purchase a replacement medical oxygen machine.
