City plans for next fiscal year with projects

The Alpine City Council held its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, October 17. Mayor Catherine Eaves shared during her mayor’s report that she met with a group on Tuesday morning called Water in the Desert with the Rio Grande Joint Venture. This group has expressed some interest in assisting with Alpine’s water systems and will be present at the workshop that the city is hosting scheduled for December 5 a 4:30 p.m. before the regular council meeting.

Presidio locals honored by TxDOT in College Station

Two members of the Presidio community and employees of the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) were recently awarded the Extra Mile Award in College Station. Presidio’s Assistant Maintenance Supervisor Jesus Hernandez and Crew Chief Jose Ruben Hernandez were given this award in recognition of saving someone’s life, as the pair rescued a stranded motorist in a low water crossing.

Dedicated fundraisers: Humane Society

The Alpine Humane Society (AHS) has been a community staple since 1982. Working hard to help pets in our neighborhoods via the pet food pantry, affordable spay and neuter clinics, emergency veterinary care, and transportation, these services require not only dedicated individuals but extensive funding.

Lady Bucks face Tornillo and Wink, remain first in district

The Alpine Lady Bucks, now with a sevenwin streak and remaining first in the district, faced the Tornillo Coyotes last Tuesday and the Wink Wildcats on Saturday. In the first set of the district home game against Tornillo the Lady Bucks won 25-12, 25-11 in the second set, and 25-5 in the third. This resulted in an Alpine win of 3-0, on their home court.

20 years of M2M: a Boston Marathon qualifying race

The Marathon to Marathon (M2M) celebrates its 20th race this Saturday. This annual event began in 2003 and has been going strong ever since. Attracting locals and visitors alike, this Boston Marathon qualifying race is one of the largest events Marathon hosts, and upwards of over 500 racers descend upon the small community in West Texas, doubling its size with runners and volunteers.
