Drought, disease, and pests wreak havoc on trees and other plants

Body
Dear Neil: Was this past fall’s heavy acorn crop due to the serious drought or just a random occurrence? Nut-producing trees are noted for being “alternate bearing.” They will have a heavy crop one year and a very light crop the next, swinging back and forth like a pendulum. Pecans are famous for it, but as you have noted, oaks act the same way.

Bucks return home Friday

Body
A week off is a good thing for most high school basketball teams, and the Alpine Bucks are no exception. And after suffering a 70-60 loss at Kermit Jan. 10, the Bucks were hoping to be full strength entering Tuesday’s game at Presidio. But illness has struck the Bucks, and Alpine was still missing some players for their trip to the Border – only taking about eight or nine players.

Lady Bucks push it to the wire for the win

Both the Lady Buck basketball teams traveled to Kermit last Tuesday to finish off the first half of district play. The JV Lady Bucks played hard but struggled scoring points in the first half. The JV Lady Jackets would build a bigger lead in the second half giving our girls their second loss of district play.
