What are you especially looking forward to in your senior year? One of the things I’m looking forward to the most is my senior prom with my friends. What activities are you involved in during your senior year? I’m the president for the Alpine FFA chapter, as well as a member of the National Honor Society.

It is that time of year again, one of the most anticipated days for Texas high school sports when the Texas University Interscholastic League launches its realignment day, held every two years. On Feb.

Early voting for the March 1 Republican and Democratic primary elections starts Tuesday, and citizens will have many opportunities to cast their ballots. All registered voters in all Brewster County precincts may cast their ballots early at theVal Clark Beard Complex, 203 North Seventh Street in Alpine.

Big Bend National Park has always drawn visitors from all generations and from all over who seek to enjoy its rich biological and geological diversity, along with the natural beauty and historic preservation that keeps them coming back year after year.

With strong play behind their starting guards senior point guard Jenica Portillo and shooting guard Novah Carrasco, the Lady Bucks remained undefeated in district play with a big win over the Presidio Lady Devils, 55-26.

Coach John Fellows just received an award he cannot quit bragging and smiling about. That’s because it’s for his football team and all his players. They were awarded The Texas High School Coaches Association Texas state finalist for academic excellence. The Fightin’ Buck football team, along with 13 other high school teams, was named a finalist in 3A.

The Alpine Fightin’ Buck basketball team came back from nine points down to the Presidio Blue Devils to smash them in the second half at the Gallego center, 56- 42. Aiden Morrissey had 15 points to lead all scorers, Esteban Macias had 10 points, and Jayden and Jace Canaba had 13 and 9 points respectively.

“Honor the Texas flag; I pledge allegiance to thee, Texas, one state under God, one and indivisible.” Children across our state recite this pledge at the start of every school day. Placing their right hands over their hearts, they take a moment to pause and appreciate the independent spirit of our beloved Lone Star State.

As Alpine ISD moves into February, the challenges are many and varied as they are for everyone across our nation. However, if we look around us, there are equally as many opportunities to celebrate the accomplishments and spirit of the youth in this community.
