My first experience with vichyssoise was in college at a little lunch place whose kitchen was run by a lady from England. One must realize this was early on in my culinary adventures, so it was out of my realm of experience as far as a soup goes.

Dear Neil: I am attaching photos of two different winter weeds I have in my lawn. What will be my best control for them? I also have crabgrass in the lawn in the summer. Is there a control for it that won’t hurt St. Augustine?

Alpine Humane Society Pet of the Week is Elias, with a handsome medium-length coat of orange with a bit of white. He came to the shelter as a stray along with his sibling, Gael. At just under one year old, Elias is just a youngster. Adopting both kittens would make for a purr-fect family.

Four Bucks were in double figures on Feb. 15 in Presidio as Alpine cruised to a 56-39 win against the Blue Devils.

The Alpine High School boys and girls golf teams traveled to Iraan to play the first golf tournament of the year. The girls played on Feb.

It was not supposed to end this way, especially on Valentine’s Day, falling to the Denver City Fillies, 51-44. The District 4-3A undefeated district champions, 8-0, and first in District. The Lady Bucks had not lost a game since the Lubbock Caprock tournament in late December. It was the first time since 2004 that the girls had gone undefeated in district.
