Body The State of Texas has often been referred to as not just a state, but also a state of mind. Texas is an idea. I am proud of our beautiful state. I am proud of its people, its culture, and its imprint on our character.

Body The City reminds the public that the quarterly bulk pickup event will take place on Monday, Oct. 11. As per the city ordinance, residents are required to make a pickup appointment one week prior to the event, between Oct. 4-8 by calling TDS at 432-837-0845.

Body My husband and I were visiting Alpine, as we try to do several times a year from our home in Georgetown. We have a small RV.

Body September 2021 was a strange month for Texans. The White House tried to force Texans to take CO- VID vaccines they didn’t want or need, as in young people with a high resistance and those with natural immunity.

Body Although many locals are unaware, for the past several years there has been a quiet but incredible northward migration of animals from the Big Bend. Literally thousands of dogs and cats have had a second chance to live because of the continued efforts of a handful of people.

Body Marathon High School senior Jackson Barlow represented the Mustangs well at a recent cross country meet held in Marfa. Barlow placed first to garner top honors.

Body Football Sept. 23 @ Kermit JV 5 p.m.

Body Sul Ross Football held host Austin College to a touchdown and three field goals, but couldn’t overcome a 10-0 first quarter deficit in a 16-7 road loss in Sherman. “The players played hard and with effort,” said head coach John Pearce.

Body The Alpine Cross Country traveled to Presidio on Sept. 18 for the Bo Coffman Invitational. In what is historically the hottest and arguably the toughest racing course of the season, the varsity boys placed second, beating Fort Stockton, Kermit, Van Horn, Marfa, and Fort Davis.

Body On Sept. 21 the Lady Bucks played Presidio High School at Gallego Center in Alpine in a losing effort in the team’s first district game of the season.
