Alpine Avalanche S______ ___ B__ B___ ___ D____ M________ C______ Feb. 5, 1954 The New Marathon Public Library was formally opened with members of the county commissioners’ court and trustees of the Marathon Library Association present.

On Saturday, Feb. 18 at approximately 1:15 PM, Big Bend National Park’s Communications Center received a call requesting emergency assistance on the Pinnacles Trail. A 56-year-old male was experiencing chest pains. Friends hiking with the visitor immediately began CPR and continued with the help of bystanders and park volunteers until rangers arrived on scene with an AED. Unfortunately, all attempts to revive the visitor were unsuccessful.

Alpine High School band members recently competed in the UIL Solo and Ensemble contest held at Odessa College. Pictured is the AHS Clarinet Quartet consisting of Madison Mendoza, Allison Sanchez, Jaylynn Celaya, and Meghan Struthers, who are advancing to state competition.

Sul Ross State University will hold its’ Hall of Honor inductee ceremony on Saturday, March 25. Three local boosters, graduates, and distinguished alumni are to be honored.

The candidates running in the May 6 election for Alpine city council and the Alpine ISD school board have been announced. Candidates vying for city council positions include City Council Member Ward 1, Judy Stokes-unopposed, City Council Member Ward 3, Darin Nance-unopposed, and City Council Member Ward 5, Jerry Johnson who is the incumbent against challenger Rick Stephens.

The Brewster County Commissioner’s Court held their regularly scheduled meeting Feb. 14 in council chambers, Commissioner Sara Colando, Pct. 2 and Commissioner William ‘Mo’ Morrow, Pct. 4 were absent. Of note on the agenda was an ask by the 83rd District Attorney’s office and an abundance of road work done by the Road and Bridge department.

The Alpine ISD Board of Trustees held their regular meeting last Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in the AISD Administration Building. Of importance on the agenda were updates from Parkhill and Imperial on the ongoing construction at Alpine High School.
