Summit draws over 200 people

The Far West Texas Summit held on January 17 and 18 brought over 200 interested community members together from all over the region, including Alpine, Fort Davis, Marfa, Marathon, Presidio, and Terlingua.

Cowboy Poetry Gathering on the horizon

The Fifth Annual Lone Star Cowboy Poetry Gathering is saddling up for another celebration of Western culture and artistry, taking place February 20-22 at Sul Ross State University in Alpine. The event draws cowboy poets, musicians, and enthusiasts from across Texas and beyond each year.

Smoke in the Mountains receives award

Recently, the board members of the Smoke in the Mountains BBQ and Ribeye Shootout held each June in Fort Davis attended the 2024 Champions Barbecue Alliance Awards Banquet in Seguin. The local event, still in its infancy, received 4th place out of 200+ events put on around the State of Texas and other states for the 2024 Event of the Year.

Legislative budget writers are proposing nearly $5 billion to increase teacher pay and $1 billion to implement a school voucher program in the next biennium, the Austin American Statesman reported. The voucher program also referred to as school choice, would provide public money for private schooling, a key priority for Gov.
