The May 3 general election will elect two positions to the Alpine City Council and the Alpine ISD Board of Trustees. The filing deadline was last Friday at 5 p.m.

How will you get your food today? Most of the public’s answer to this simple question is through trade. We trade our service or time for currency, which in turn can be traded for products such as food. It can be argued that one of the most important products we trade is food, and modern agriculture has enabled the success of large-scale communities. If each person or family had to farm their own plants or ranch their own livestock, they would not have time or resources to conduct other necessary services for themselves. Thus, the practice of trading one’s product for another necessary product became common in larger communities and is still part of the backbone of society today. However, before agriculture and trade, how were food sources collected and maintained for survival?

The Alpine City Council held its regular meeting on Tuesday, February 4, at Alpine City Hall in the council chambers. Ward 3 Councilor Darin Nance was absent. All other councilors attended, with Mayor Catherine Eaves presiding over the meeting.
