Mathew ‘Matt’ Shane Spencer
Mathew ‘Matt’ Shane Spencer, 55, died on August 31, 2026, in Odessa, from complications of prolonged illness.
He was born on August 3, 1971, in McCamey. Mathew earned a Master’s in Business Administration and Health Management from Texas Tech University, an accomplishment that took him to different opportunities around the state before he returned to West Texas.
Mathew will be remembered by those who knew him for his off-the-wall sense of humor, his big hugs, and the distinctive way he brought himself to every gathering and conversation. He had a deep enjoyment of hunting and especially valued time spent coyote hunting with his friends Steven Williams and Larry Walden. He also loved reloading, gunsmithing, and all things related to firearms. Beyond those interests, Matt enjoyed tinkering with his trucks, watching movies, and had a special fondness for all things “the 80’s”.
He is survived by his father and mother, David and Vicki Spencer; his brother, Chris Spencer; and his sister, Kelli Ondusko. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Sylvester and Mary Anne Herricks, and his paternal grandparents, Hungry and Clara Nell Spencer.
Mathew’s life was marked by the things he loved most: time with friends, the hobbies that held his interest, and the humor and warmth that made him memorable to others. His absence will be felt by his family, his friends, and all who shared in his laughter, stories, and companionship.
He will be remembered with love and missed.
