According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Texas’s population surpassed 31 million –a 7.3% growth since 2020. This creates significant health care challenges for Texans, particularly rural populations that tend to be elderly, with nearly 20% of residents older than 65.

In its regularly held meeting on Tuesday night, the Alpine City Council spent the majority of the meeting on multiple items involving the Alpine Volunteer Fire Department (AVFD). As part of House Bill 5066, passed in 2023 and signed into law by Gov. Last week, our parish celebrated the feast of Transfi guration — a key moment in our Lord’s public ministry. St. Luke records that the Transfiguration occurs eight days after Peter’s declaration that Jesus was the Christ, the Son of the Living God, contrasting the belief that Jesus was merely Elijah or another prophet. Peter also famously rebuked Jesus when He spoke of His death and resurrection in Jerusalem. Thus, the Gospel for this feast follows the dual declaration of Jesus as the Son of God and His path to crucifixion and resurrection.
