Now in its 10th year, Clear The Shelters / Desocupar Los Albergues is an annual, nationwide pet adoption campaign led by NBCUniversal Local, a division of NBCUniversal Every year, NBCUniversal Local’s NBC and Telemundo owned stations, plus more than a hundred affiliated stations across the nation, partner with animal shelters and rescues in their communities to promote pet adoption and raise needed funds for shelters and rescues.

The Big Bend Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas will hold a program on Saturday, August 16, at the Alpine Public Library at 1 p.m. James Tuttle of Tree Loving Care will give us a presentation about tree care. He is a certified Arborist and Tree Care Expert. He will cover topics such as tree trimming and pruning, disease and pest management, etc. Bring your tree care question for James. Local veterinarian named Man of the Year

The Texas County Agricultural Agents Association selects outstanding men or women from throughout the State of Texas each year to be awarded plaques in recognition of their outstanding and significant contributions to Texas Agriculture. Awards are given for outstanding contributions to agriculture or any profession closely related to agriculture. This year, Dr. Ray Allen was awarded the Man of the Year in Texas Agriculture, Far West Texas District 6, at the annual TCAAA conference in Lubbock.

Marathon ISD marches forward under new leadership

As of June 2, Marathon ISD officially welcomed Keith Kimbrough as its new superintendent, following the retirement of former Superintendent Dr. Ivonne Durant. No stranger to small school administration, Kimbrough left the Piney Woods and 1A Martinsville ISD for the deserts of West Texas to take the reins for the Mustangs.

Alpine ISD talks money, meals, and modesty

The Alpine ISD Board of Trustees held its regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, July 23, at the Alpine ISD Administration Building. District 7 Trustee Joshua Cross and District 2 Trustee Joe Portillo were not in attendance. Alpine ISD Superintendent Michelle Rinehart presided over the meeting.
