The Marfa Chamber of Commerce will host a ribbon cutting ceremony for the opening of Marfa Film Shop on Thursday, Oct. 7, at 10:30 am.

Alpine Humane Society Pet of the Week is “I’m not really fluffy, but that’s the name I was given. I’m a handsome, one-year-old fellow with beautiful golden eyes, a lovely grey coat, and a great set of whiskers.

On Friday, Oct. 1, at 3 p.m. at the Brewster County Courthouse gazebo in Alpine, the public is invited to join in a celebration gathering in honor of Alpine native Remington Hilary Carrillo, a little girl who successfully won the battle against acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Carrillo will turn five next week.

On Oct. 23, TransPecos Bank held a ribbon cutting and reception to open its new facility on Holland Avenue in Alpine. I met Alan Maxwell under the most unusual circumstances. He was sitting on top of a pickup in the middle of Limpia Creek where it crosses Sproul Road. It was one of those times when, after a rain, Limpia Creek flooded, and Alan thought he could make it across. I was a teenager working as a wrangler at Prude Ranch. John Robert Prude asked us to take one of our pickups and a tow rope to help Alan out of the creek.

Alpine Ambassadors kicked off a grand opening and ribbon cutting on Sept. 25 at new Alpine business Pink Doe Boutique, with owner Maritza Acosta and mom Lupe Acosta welcoming customers with complimentary snacks and good deals on fashion clothing.
