Epic Cheerleading members Alaysia Villanueva, Reyah Ramos, Veydah De La O, Lulu Tercero, and Irassa Stevens are all pumped up to cheer on Nov. 13 outside American Legion Post 79 in Alpine. Dear Neil: Our city’s Chamber of Commerce tries to keep flowers in large 30-inch round pots that are 24 inches deep at each of the four corners of major intersections in our downtown area. We have volunteers to water most intersections twice a week, but the dust and heat from the road makes it all difficult. What suggestions would you offer?

Until a few years ago my knowledge of pierogis only extended to the Men In Black film, where the jeweler is sitting down eating with his friend, and the bad guy, aka the bug, is after the galaxy that just so happens to be on the collar of the pet cat. I mean I’m a southwest Texan. What do I know of pierogi except they’re not really a staple in our diet. Tacos and tamales I’m familiar with, but pierogis not so much, until one day I was browsing the internet for something different to make. The photos looked good, I was hungry, and I had all the ingredients on hand, so I decided to try my hand at making these dumplings.
